Mike Oliver was a disabled academic and political activist. He was on the Management Committees of SKILL and the Spinal Injuries Association, and was a founding Council member of the BCODP and a member of the Direct Action Netwoek (DAN). Mike Oliver chaired VOADL, and is credited as having named and popularised the concept of the ‘social model’ of disability. He died in 2019.
