Vassall Centre

The Vassall Centre is one of the earliest barrier free workplaces in the UK. The Vassall Centre Trust was set up in 1998 to develop the building, a former wartime base for American soldiers. The development was led by Disabled people, for Disabled people and Disabled people-led organisations. By creating fully accessible workspace, the building offered employment and voluntary opportunities for disabled people. The design and layout of this large, single story centre shows workspace can be designed and built without the barriers that disable people. There is also a large, fully accessible conference centre at the Vassall Centre.
